A note from Levi
Welcome to the homestead.
We moved from New Jersey to Tennessee for room to breathe and a quieter family life. For our military family, the open land on Franklin Pike offered a place to put down roots.
The alpacas are part of that daily rhythm. Some days they are gathered at the fence; other days you will find them spread across the pasture, watching everything around them.
We hope these notes give you a closer look at the animals and the place behind Happy Homestead. Thanks for being here.

What makes alpaca fiber special?
Alpacas grow a fleece used in yarn, knitwear, felt, and other textiles. Huacaya fleece has a crimped, lofty appearance; Suri fleece hangs in longer locks. Both can produce beautiful material when the fiber is carefully selected and processed.
Softness starts with the fiber.
Fiber diameter is measured in microns. Finer fibers generally bend more easily against the skin, but diameter alone does not tell the whole story: coarse fibers mixed into a yarn, the knit, and the finished blend all affect how it feels.
The label matters.
Alpaca is valued for insulating textiles. Socks often combine alpaca with other fibers for stretch, fit, and durability. Compare the actual blend and weight, then choose a lighter crew or heavier boot style for the way you plan to wear it.
Give it good care.
Follow the care label for the finished item. There is no single washing rule for every blend or construction, and no textile is guaranteed to suit every person's skin.

Pasture company
Quiet, curious, and better together.

Alpacas are social animals that belong in a herd. They often communicate with soft humming sounds and are alert to unfamiliar people and activity. Every animal has its own temperament; a quiet animal is not necessarily one that wants to be touched.
A patient approach gives them time to decide how close to come. During a visit, follow your host's guidance, keep children nearby, and allow the animals space. Feeding or close contact is only appropriate when your host invites it.
